The Rev. Dr. Darrell J. Gaskin, Pastor


Rev. Dr. Darrell J. Gaskin has served as pastor of Beth Shalom A.M. E. Zion Church for more than 25 years. He ministers the gospel of Christ in a very practical, down-to-earth manner that many find easy to understand. Every Sunday, he shares with his congregation and guests a study guide that supplements his powerful sermons. His goal is not only to inspire and motivate but to help people understand and apply God’s word to their lives. He firmly believe as Jesus taught that if we hold to Christ’s teaching, we are really his disciples. Then we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free.

Pastor Gaskin works hard to make Beth Shalom a house of peace for all who worship here. Not a church of peace and quiet, but one where everyone is at peace with the Lord and with each other. Under his leadership, the church strives for PEACE through Powerful preaching, Excellent teaching, Awesome praise and worship, Creative ministries, and Engaging fellowship.

Since strong communities consists of strong families, Pastor Gaskin has directed Beth Shalom’s ministries to focus on supporting, maintaining, encouraging, and developing families in the church and the community. His sermons address today’s issues, such as family relationships, community issues, social justice, personal problems, and financial challenges

Pastor Gaskin is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. He earned his Master’s Degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and a Ph.D. in Health Economics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He is a William C. and Nancy F. Richardson Professor of Health Policy at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is a health services researcher who directs the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions.

Pastor Gaskin is married to Mrs. Deneen T. Gaskin. Together they have two beautiful daughters Danielle and Deanna.
